How to Choose the Correct Arm and Hand Surgery Table

We offer a wide range of Arm & Hand Surgery Tables, and we understand that matching the correct table for a procedure is no easy feat. Each table fits a unique need and every surgeon has their personal preference. This guide will help you identify the differences and help you choose the correct table for your facility in just 5 simple steps.

Step 1 Size & Style:

Arm & Hand Surgery Tables: Rectangle, Hourglass, and Free Access

What style fits the needs of the surgeon and procedure?

Rectangle- Most common size and is becoming very universal. Total operating surface measures 18" wide by 32" long, fitting any procedure.

Hourglass- More specific to the user's preference. Narrow waist allows up close access to the surgery area. Wide outer part offers support for the surgeon's elbow or wrists to rest on.

Free Access- Our smallest table with an operating surface of 12" wide by 30" long. Used for minor procedures or an extra wide armboard.

Step 2 Material:

Arm & Hand Surgery Table Best Material

To get the ideal table for your budget and application we offer three different materials.

Carbon Fiber- Provides excellent durability and is radiolucent for C-Arm imaging. Lightweight and extremely smooth for easy cleaning and storage.  This is the best material available.

Stainless Steel- Well only available with rectangle under pad mounts, this offers great durability and rigidity. Polycarbonate covered center opening for C-Arm imaging. This material is ideal for OR tables or stretchers without side rails.

Phenolic- Great balance between budgets and durability. This is also radiolucent for C-Arm imaging. Smooth surface for easy cleaning.

Step 3 Base:

Arm & Hand Surgery Tables with Mobile Base, Double T Foot, Single Leg, and No Leg

Now choose your base. Ranging from very stable through to suspended completely form the operating room table's side rail.

Mobile Base- Self-supporting table. Rolls on 4 casters and locks into place with 2 locking casters or with available side rail locking clamps. Height adjustable to match the height of any surgical table or stretcher. Only available with Rectangle and Hourglass style tops.

Flip up Leg with Double Tee Foot- This leg attaches to the outer end of the table and folds flat along table for storage. Includes handle for carrying or storage. Double tee foot increases side to side stability. Height adjustable to match the height of your surgical table (30" to 42"H). Only available with Rectangle and Hourglass style tops.

Flip up Leg with Single Post Leg- The single post leg is the same style as the double tee foot but with a straight post. Works well when floor space is an issue.

No Leg- These are excellent for C-Arm maneuverability and access for the surgeon's knees if they prefer to sit during surgery. These are available in all three style tops. Table attaches to surgical table's side rail; not to be used on stretchers or tables without side rails.

Step 4 Attachment to Table:

We have options to attach to either a Surgical Table or Stretchers.

Posi-Clamps- Unique clamp that attaches directly to the surgical table side rail. All of our tables ship ready for use with built in clamps. This style clamp can't be used for tables or stretchers without side rails.

Under Pad- Many times arm or hand surgeries are performed on equipment that doesn't have side rails. For these applications, we have thin tables that slide under the pad of the stretcher and are held in place by the patient's weight. These can be used on both surgical tables and stretchers.

Step 5 Table Pads:

Arm & Hand Surgery Tables and Replacement Pads

Our Arm & Hand Surgery Tables ship ready for use with a 2" thick pad. 3" or 4" pads are also available upon request. The pad thickness on the Arm/Hand Table should match the thickness of the Surgical Table or Stretcher Pads.

All three of these pad styles are constructed with Coulmed’s Standard Foam and Soft-Skin Conductive Covering:

Standard Foam Pads are made with a high density, urethane foam making resilient and long-lasting pad.  All our pads are covered in black, Soft Skin Conductive Covering, ensuring flexibility that allows it to conform to each patient.

Rectangle Pads- See item AC2201-P: fits all Rectangle Style Tops.

Hourglass Pads- See item AC2200-P: fits all Hourglass Style Tops.

Free Access Pads- See item AC03-P: fits all Free Access Style Tops.
